Mobile App

Empowering Street Vendors, Protecting Their Rights

MY ROLE

As a UX Designer, I was responsible for creating a user-friendly mobile app for street vendors, specifically catering to the needs of semi-literate and illiterate users.

Key responsibilities:

  • Thoroughly analyzed the primary research conducted with street vendors to understand their specific needs and challenges.

  • Designed the app interface with a focus on simplicity, clarity, and accessibility, considering the needs of semi-literate and illiterate users.

  • Incorporated a text-to-speech feature to enable users to listen to information rather than read it.

  • Utilized bold colors and a visually appealing design to enhance clarity and engagement.

  • Developed the app in both Hindi and English, ensuring that it could be easily adapted to other local languages.

  • Designed a scalable interface to accommodate changes in language strings without requiring extensive modifications.

  • Incorporated an easy-to-use SOS button for emergency situations.

  • Collaborated closely with developers to ensure the accurate implementation of design specifications and provide necessary assets.

  • Successfully created a mobile app that empowers street vendors by providing them with essential tools and resources.

Center for Civil Society (CCS)

Centre for Civil Society (CCS) was established in August 1997 with the goal of advocating for choice, accountability, and prosperity through market-based solutions. Challenge

Designing a user experience that adapts to local languages, accommodates low literacy levels, encourages app usage, and ensures scalability to effectively support street vendors.

Our app faces significant challenges in adapting to local languages, addressing low literacy rates, encouraging user adoption, and ensuring scalability. To successfully break these barriers, we must prioritise localisation efforts, design with low literacy users in mind, implement effective engagement strategies, and build a scalable infrastructure. By conquering these challenges, we can create an inclusive and widely embraced app, empowering street vendors and maximising its impact across diverse communities.
